Holder of a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Fine Arts and another in Graphic Design, Serge Dery worked as an Art Director for magazines for over ten years before joining CBC\/Radio-Canada as a graphic designer. There, he was responsible for graphics and animation for the RDI news network, working as both a concept designer and 3D animator.
\nThroughout his career in graphic design, he received several national and international awards recognizing the quality and originality of his work.<\/p>\n
Since over a decade, Serge decided to devote himself entirely to his true passion: painting.<\/p>\n
His artistic practice is, above all, an exploration \u2014 a search for his authentic identity as an artist, his way of thinking, and the subjects that deeply move him. Passionate about portraiture, he sees the human face as a mirror of inner emotion and the human condition.
\nDeeply inspired by nature, Serge seeks to portray humanity as a fragile species evolving within an increasingly precarious environment.
\nHis recent works reflect an exploration of three-dimensionality, often incorporating butterflies as metaphors for the fragility of life. In his paintings, butterflies symbolize lightness, transformation, death, and rebirth.<\/p>\n
Serge is also inspired by famous classical paintings, which he reinterprets through a contemporary lens \u2014 a dialogue with the Old Masters and a personal quest for continuity between past and present.
\nIn constant search of a balance between beauty and chaos, he combines realism with abstract expressionism.
