Tommy Zen

Artist Resume

BIOGRAPHY:

Tommy Giovanni Zen is a Quebec ceramic artist recognized for his distinctive approach, which combines the richness of traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary vision of sculpture. Born in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, he developed an early fascination with materials and handcraftsmanship, discovering ceramics during his teenage years. His artistic journey has also been profoundly shaped by his Venetian family heritage, rooted in woodworking and traditional finishing techniques, which continues to influence his exploration of texture, surface, and the interplay of light. Through his sculptural ceramics, he creates works that bridge tradition and innovation, celebrating the beauty of craftsmanship while embracing a contemporary artistic language.

artistic approach:

Tommy Giovanni Zen's artistic approach explores the relationship between material, tradition, and memory. Through ceramics, he transforms clay into sculptural works inspired by ancient civilizations and the natural world. By combining textured surfaces, natural pigments, patinas, and metallic finishes, he creates pieces where ancestral craftsmanship meets contemporary expression. His work invites reflection on history, beauty, and the enduring richness of the material itself.
