Efflorescence
Gagnon’s paintings are in perpetual gestation. She treats the body of the painting like a piece of land. She is open to accidents. She even goes as far as getting her hands wet, playing with paint and imprints. The meaning of a painting is not predefined. Gagnon waits until the last minute to accept it. It’s from the background materials that the subject emerges: a bouquet, rooster, horse, owl, buffalo… The painter confronts the subject matter through the vitality and relief of the work.
This exhibition of recent works by Gagnon constitutes the blossoming of luxuriant painting and a committed approach, while evoking the artist’s great talent.
